Peggy Wells McBride, 72, widow of John McBride Sr. and companion of Thomas Thames, died July 1, 2011, at the home of her daughter, 1442 Hyman Drive, Manning. She was born May 1, 1939, in Manning, a daughter of the late Mount Olive and Juanita Blanding Wells.

She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In her youth, she accepted Christ and joined Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Wells; and three sisters, Chinese Hilton, Rhuenette Lloyd and Emma Wells.

Survivors are her companion, Thomas Thames of the home; three daughters, Brenda A. Lewis, Terresa (Nathaniel) Murray and Juanita (Wayne) McFadden, all of Manning; six sons, John"Buchie" (Ozetta) McBride of Manning, Ervin (Niamo) McBride of Okinawa, Japan, Timothy (Lisa) McBride, Alvin (Ann) McBride, and Lee Ernest (Mary Ann) McBride, all of Manning, and Ralph D. McBride of Little Rock, Ark.; two grandchildren reared in the home, TaQuann (Shamika) McBride and Lashandra (Rick); one sister, Celestine Martin; 41 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Levan and Leroy Hilton; one sister-in-law, Helen Baxter; three aunts, Carrie McKnight, Mary Ann Dow and Adline Conyers; and one daughter-in-law, Rosa Mae McBride.

Services: Mt. Zero Missionary Baptist Church, 7827 Paxville Highway, Manning, with the Rev. David Woods Jr. presiding, the Rev. Major Lloyd, eulogist, assisting the Rev. Lillian Wright, the Rev. B. Pringle, the Rev. D. Singleton, the Rev. Lawrence Dozier and the Rev. Barney Dozier.

Burial: churchyard cemetery.
