Ollie was the daughter of Dr. W. R. McMillan, a physician. In 1929 Ollie graduated from the Freedmen's Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, D.C. In 1937 she became the first black nurse on the staff of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. She continued her nursing education throughout her life and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She had a long career in nursing. She did not retire until she was 84.
Ollie was survived by two daughters, Sandra Ruth Dixon of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anne Young of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
