Delvin Hunter
Delvin Dwight Hunter, 89, of New London, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at New London Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born May 27, 1914, south of New London, he was the son of Harland and Edna Raines Hunter. On Dec. 24, 1936, he married Gertrude Ida Geren in Burlington. She died Jan. 27, 2004.
Mr. Hunter farmed for 35 years. He retired after 20 years as driver for MHI in Mount Pleasant.
He was a 1932 graduate of New London High School and of the Christian faith. He enjoyed farming, fishing, his livestock and especially hunting with his foxhounds.
Survivors include one son, Gary Hunter of New London; one daughter, Donna Overlin of Mitchellville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Ivan Hunter of New London.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Hunter will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Robert Dameron officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
A memorial has been established for New London Rescue.
