Sherm was the middle of three children born in Raymond, Was., Sept. 15, 1927, to Charles Buell Gregory and Fairy Fern Wolvers. Sherm grew up in Coquille, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Jo Anne Williamson. Together they raised four boys in the home Sherm built on Shelley Road. At Sherm's death, they had been married 66 years and had only recently moved to Roseburg to stay in an assisted living facility.

Sherm served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre in World War II, where he achieved the rank of technical sergeant and was able to attend the Nuremberg Trials. He was a proud member of the Army band and continued to play the saxophone in big bands for many years after his service. After the war, Sherm returned to Coquille and worked until retirement as a supervisor for ODOT.

Sherm was a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, and an example of what can be accomplished in life through dedication to family and hard work. He was a great influence and friend to those who were lucky enough to meet him. He will be loved forever and greatly missed.

Sherm is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; sons, Rich, Jerry and Kim, and Vic; four grandchildren, Ryan and Becky, Adam and Holly, Amber and Luke and Jennifer and Arby; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Elizabeth, Nicole, Hannah, Jessica, Kaydence and Dylan.

His brother, Dick; sister, Marian; son, Steve; and granddaughter, Angela preceded him in death.
