We do know she married Jacob William Helm in Bedford County, VA, and was left a widow in 1780 with four children: Adam, Peter, Thomas, and the youngest child, Jacob. By 25 Oct 1782, her situation was such that her three eldest sons were ordered bond out. Norris Prillaman, in the Prillaman family book, noted that, after the death of Jacob William Helm, Mary Ann moved near the Prillaman family. Mary Ann is said to have been her husband’s third cousin and is thought to have had a father or brother named Peter. Mary Ann Helm passed away on 28 Mar 1828 at age 84.
