Mrs. Jerome Hayhurst died following a long illness at her home northwest of the
city at four oclock Monday afternoon at the age of 93 years.
Funeral services were held at the Canaday chapel at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon
with the Rev. Fred Payne officiating.
Mary E. Hayhurst, daughter of Matthew and Sarah Beedle Anderson, was born on a
farm northwest of Momence Sept. 20, 1851 and has remained in that home for her
entire life.
Mary Anderson was united in marriage in Momence to Jerome Hayhurst on May 13,
1875. To this union five daughters were born four of whom survive - Mrs. Lillie
Hess, Lewiston, Mont.; Mrs. Sadie Hess, Momence; Mrs. Lottie Ward and Mrs.
Clystra Dennis of Grant Park. Mrs. Sylvia Hess, the fifth daughter, passed away
in Winifred, Mont., in 1931. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren. Miss Belle Beedle is the only remaining cousin.
