N C Rathbun was born at Downs August 21, 1888. He was drowned while bathing August 4, 1906, aged 17 years, 11 months, and 14 days.

A cheerfully obedient son, an affectionate brother, a genial, loyal friend. Thoughtful, careful, and efficient, both in labor and business far beyond his years. No bad habits marred the beauty of his active life. A young man of infinite courage, ambitious, and eagerly alive with high hopes and broad plans for the future.

But the active life is ended. The busy, willing hands are folded peacefully over the manly breast. His work is done, and we gather about his casket and gaze upon his loved face in awe, and wonder at the inscrutable ways of providence.

Funeral services, in charge of Rev. We. Brehm, were held at the home of the deceased on Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. where a very large number of neighbors, friends and relatives gathered to offer their last memorial in honor of him whose death was so universally regretted. Loving hands and sympathizing friends had arranged in a most artistic way a background of beautiful flowers just above and near the casket.

The body was shipped on Saturday morning for interment to Mrs. Rathbun's former home in Gibbon, Neb.

Card of Thanks
To the numerous kind friends and neighbors who so willingly assisted in the recovery and care of the body of our beloved son and brother, and to those who so generously contributed to the floral decorations, and to those who rendered the sweet appropropriate music and to all those who so tenderly expressed their heartfelt sympathy, we desire to return our grateful thanks.

Never until this great bereavement have we fully realized the kindness of our neighbors, or the value of human sympathy. Words fail to express what our hearts feel and we can only say that we appreciate your great kindness. --J A RATHBUN AND FAMILY
