Helen Dorothy Alf, age 79, of Portage, WI, died Friday, January 5, 1990, at Divine savior Nursing Home in Portage. The former Helen Ruesch was born September 19, 1910, in Skokie, Ill, the daughter of William and Louise (Kutzman) Ruesch. She married Edward W. Alf on February 28, 1931, in Skokie, Ill, and she and her husband owned and operated Dairyland Poultry in Endeavor. Mrs. Alf was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Portage, the Portage Country Club, the Portage Civic League, the Wauona Woman's Club, and a supporter of the Zona Gale Center. She is survived by two sons, Donald E Alf, and Edward James (Peggy) Alf, of Endeavor; two daughters, Jeanne (John) Cummings of Endeavor, and Phyllis Helen Bullard of Auburndale, Fl; 17 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Albert Wm. Alf; three brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 9, at 10am from the Port-Axtell Funeral Home in Portage, with Father Dale Grubba officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Endeavor. The family suggests memorials be made in Helen Alf's name to the American Cancer Society.
