He kept a general store in Stetsonville, a village in the town of New Lisbon, NY for 26 years, becoming well to do. In 1855, he followed his ambitious son to Farmington, IL where he continued to have a successful business. He and wife Eliza Robinson had 7 children, all born Stetsonville.
