Newton Jason Smith, 86. Was a member of Elon Church of Christ. He was a U.S. ArmyVeteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a retiree of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Smith; two sons, Gerry G. Smith of LakeCity, Fla., and Steve "Randy" Smith and wife, Tinnie, of New Hope; two sisters,Nanny B. Craig and Ernestine Whitaker of Owens Cross Roads; threegrandchildren, Jennifer Wisnerof Albertville, Kathryn Smith of Guntersville, and Jason O. Smith of NewHope; and special friend, Faye Masters.
