He was born in Marion to Alva T. and Pearl R. (Clifford) Nelson. His mother survives in Swayzee. He graduated from Van Buren High School, Van Buren, in 1962. He married Janice L. Rudy in 1966. She survives. He had lived in Swayzee since 1971.
Mr. Nelson retired in 2000 from Foster Forbes, formerly of Marion, after more than 30 years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Suzanne R. Nelson, Greenley, Colo.; a son, Jeffrey A. (Tricia) Nelson, Kokomo; brothers-in-law, Ken (Judy) Rudy, Swayzee, and Gary Rudy, Warsaw; and a niece, Angie Rudy, California.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Candy Nelson.
