CORINTH - James Herman Wooten, 94, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born Feb. 5, 1908, in Alcorn County to Alexander Wooten and Minnie Essary Wooten. He was reared by Nancy Jane Smith Wooten after his mother's death. He married Laura Ophelia Elizabeth Mullins on June 18, 1932, in Alcorn County. He was a member of Tuscumbia Baptist Church and helped with the construction of the old church. He was a former deputy sheriff, a road operator for Alcorn County, a county bailiff and a former employee of the L.B. Price Company. He loved his wife and his family, celebrated life to the fullest, and told everybody God had richly blessed his family.

Services were Friday, March 22, 2002, at Tuscumbia Baptist Church with Bro. Pete Wooley and Bro. Joe Spencer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Laura Ophelia Elizabeth Mullins Wooten of Corinth; a son; three daughters; his grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons: Justin Wilkins, Slater Smith, Alan Smith, Scott Coleman, Brandon Fretwell and Eric Jarnagin.

Honorary pallbearers were a special nephew, Audrey Clyde "Moon" Mullins, and the men of Tuscumbia Baptist Church and the Tuscumbia community.

Memorials may be made to the Tuscumbia Baptist Church Building Fund, 250 CR 766, Corinth MS 38834.
