Fourth of four children of John Calhoun Nash (1821-1902) and Rebecca Ursula Shaw (1819-1887) of Fayetteville. However, she was the only child to grow to adulthood.

On 14 September 1870 in Fayette County, Georgia Mary wed Elias Smith "Eli Smitty" HUGHEN (1848-1924). The son of Henry "Carey" Hughen (1811-1897) and Elizabeth Plunkett (1815-1893) of Newnan, Georgia.

Three children:

1.) Rebecca "Viola" Hughen (1871-1924) who married her maternal-second-cousin Charles Elihu Benjamin "Charlie" NASH (1865-1935);

2.) John "Spencer" Hughen (1873-1898) who never married.

3.) infant boy Hughen (1875-1875) who died at birth.

Mary and Smitty were first buried in the J. C. Nash Family Cemetery across the street. In 1976, her grandson Howard Nash had Hughen/Nash family members exhumed and reinterred in Camp Memorial Park Cemetery. The surname is Hughen, but some family members have added "s" on the end.
