Margaret M. Dale, the 5th in a family of seven, was the daughter of George W. and Martha (Booz) Dale. She was born in Hancock township, Feb. 12, 1840.

On Feb. 4, 1858, she was united in marriage to Philip Davis Williams, to whom [sic] she had gone to school. The marriage was performed by her cousin, the late William Booz. To this union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy. The remaining children are: J. E. Williams, of Carthage; Mrs. Emma V. Preston, of Newark, Mo.; Mrs. Ida E. Moyes, of Monmouth, Ill.; Mrs. Laura A. Howes, of Hamilton; Mrs. Mary D. Soule, of Kirksville, Mo.; Mrs. Kate Ballew, of Des Moines, Iowa; and Charles C. Williams, who lived in Peoria, but who left Monday morning to take a government position in Washington, D. C. He was not able to attend his mother's funeral, but had been with her the last few days. Mrs. Williams is also survived by fourteen grand-children [sic] and give great-grand-children [sic]; also by a sister, Mrs. George W. Jones, of Carthage and John T. Dale, of Hancock township.

Mr. Williams died Nov. 3, 1917, at Mrs. Howes in Hamilton, where last fall, Mr. and Mrs. Williams went to spend the winter. there they received the most loving care and attention.

Mrs. Williams joined the Christian church at Oak Grove and later transferred her membership to the Carthage church and later to the LaHarpe church. She was a quiet, home loving body, devoted to her family and her church and to her family the best of mothers. She will be sorely missed, but her sweet and gracious memory will ever live in the grateful hearts of her children.

The funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. George B. Howes Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Dr. K. C. Ventress, formerly of LaHarpe but now of Monmouth. The remains were taken to Carthage Tuesday morning and laid away in Moss Ridge cemetery beside her husband, from whom she was so briefly separated by his death.~The area where Margaret Dale was born was unnamed in 1840.
