Gordon Elder Dies Suddenly at Home at Pakenham
Friends and relatives paid tribute Friday, June 19, to the memory of Gordon Elder, who passed away very suddenly at his home, 11th Concession Pakenham Township. The funeral was held from the Boyce Funeral Home, Arnprior, to St. Andrew's United Church, Pakenham. The service was conducted by Rev. W. L. Henley.
Born November 12, 1908 in Mille Isles, Québec, he was a son of William Albert elder, and his wife the late Ida (sic) Strong.
He spent his early life at Mille Isles. Twenty-four years ago he purchased a farm and moved to this district where he continued to farm until his death.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Theresa Filion, whom he married in 1935, and two sons. Also left to mourn his loss are his father, a brother and sister.
Pallbearers were: Mervyn Strong, Dan Smith, John Girourd, Dudley Humphries, Beattie Timmins and William H. Barr.
Many floral tributes were received from relatives, friends and organizations.
Relatives attending from a distance included: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Filion, Bernard Filion, Mrs. Paul Filion, all of St. Jérôme, Québec, William Albert Elder (father), Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Elder and Joan, all of Mille Isles, Québec and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil R. Graham and Kenneth, of Lachute, Québec.
Interment was in United Church Cemetery, Pakenham. Rev. W. L. Henley conducted the graveside service. (Handwritten note has 1959)
