Died in Omaha on January 31, 2013. Ken was born in Tipton, KS, where his father was Mayor and US Postmaster, on March 18, 1943. At Tipton High School he was valedictorian and captain of the basketball team. He moved to Wichita in the early 1960's and became Manager of Crestview Country Club. He founded Mick, Stack and Smartt, a securities brokerage firm, in 1971. His firm was an early adopter of discounted commissions, predating Charles Schwab's strategy and before SEC deregulation of the industry on "May Day" 1975. His successor firm, Mult-I-Vest Corp. of Kansas, operated until the mid-1980's. Ken strongly supported his sons' athletic endeavors, and was active in the Knights of Columbus, YMCA and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He also enjoyed boating and pheasant hunting. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Wilma; and brothers, Leland and David. He is survived by his brother Larry (Phyllis) of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Jane of Sand Springs, OK; sons, Bryan (Kelly) of Omaha, NE and Sean (Becky) of Plano, TX; daughter Lauren Peetoom of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Michaella, Cole, Haley, Greyson and Noah, and many loving nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL MASS will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 11802 Pacific Street, Omaha on February 4 at 6:30pm (Mass can be viewed via the media webcast icon at www.stroberts.com), with GRAVESIDE SERVICES at St. Boniface Cemetery, Tipton, KS at 12pm on February 5. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to the Alzheimer's Association .
