Dawn was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was raised by her beloved mother Madeline and beloved stepfather, Graham J. Daniels, who predeceased her. Dawn was a beautiful baby, born to Madeline and John T. Burke, and sister of John P. Burke. Madeline was blessed to have Dawn not only as her daughter, but as her trusted friend.
Dawn gave her life to the Lord Jesus in 1978. She dedicated her life to living as Christ desired her to live and tried to share the love of Jesus to everyone she met. Her favorite verse was Psalm 1:3, "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." It was evident by her life that she lived according to Psalm 1:1-3.
Dawn attended Evangel University, a Christian college in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated in 1985 with a degree in Special Education. Dawn loved her country and was an active member in the ROTC. Upon graduating from college, Dawn was commissioned into the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of Major. She served for 11½ years as a Military Intelligence Army Officer, where she also learned to speak fluid Spanish.
While in a Christian group in the military, Dawn met the love of her life, Bob Brown. Theirs is a true love story, and Bob was determined to marry Dawn. Bob and Dawn did marry in Monterey, California, overlooking the ocean in 1990. Bob was Dawn's best friend, her true love, and hero.
Bob and Dawn have four beautiful children, Ryan, age 19, Julia, 16, Dana, 14, and Wesley, 12. Dawn was a devoted mother who truly loved her children and dedicated her life to giving them her best. She determined years ago to homeschool them, and she cherished every moment with them, including going to debates with Bob to watch their children.
Dawn loved babies and enjoyed not only bringing them into the world, but she also taught and supported parents in natural childbirth in their home or at the hospital. She was owner of Gentle Beginnings since 1996. Dawn specialized in the Bradley Method of childbirth and was a Natural Childbirth Advocate. Much prayer and love went into each family and birth.
In 2011 Dawn became the Republican Party Chairman for Merced County. Dawn loved her country and passionately put her heart and soul into her Chair position.
Dawn was very active at Calvary Chapel Merced, where she served on the worship team and in women's ministry. She loved praising God and teaching women to love and obey God's word. She not only sang at church, but also led worship at retreats and conferences and spoke at women's events.
Dawn enjoyed many things. She loved music and singing. She was an amazing cook. She loved her home and loved decorating it. But her favorite thing was spending time with her family.
Dawn will be deeply missed by best friend and husband, Robert Brown and their four children, Ryan, Julia, Dana, and Wesley; her mother, Madeline Daniels; her father, John T. Burke; and brother, John P. Burke; her Aunt Linda and Uncle Bob Brownlee, Uncle Frank and Kathy Scarlota, Uncle Bob and Winifred Scarlota, Diane and John Murphy. She has many friends who deeply love her and will miss her more than words can say.
Dawn's mother Madeline said that Dawn lived every day of her life to its fullest and made it count. She has touched countless lives and shared Jesus with everyone she could. Dawn will be missed by many for a long time. She will never be forgotten.
A memorial service for Dawn will be held at 3pm Friday, November 23rd, at First Christian Church, 1345 East Olive Avenue, in Merced.
