Leonard W. Leitzel

July 22, 1918 — August 1, 2008

PENDLETON — Leonard W. Leitzel, 90, passed away at 9:10 a.m., Friday in Rawlins House, Pendleton.

He was born in Ashland, Penn. to the late Burl and Florence (Geppen) Leitzel.

Leonard graduated from Allentown Bible Institute. Forty years of his life were devoted to the cause of Wesleyan World Missions. Eighteen of these years were spent in Suriname and Guyana, South America. Then for eighteen years Rev. Leitzel served as Director of Promotion for the Department of World Missions home office then located in Marion. During that time he led tour groups to visit the mission fields of the Wesleyan Church in Zambia, Swaziland, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mexico, Japan, the Philippines and the West Indies. He modeled missions as a life of honor, privilege and joy, reflected by his children in their active participation in missions. He was a member of College Wesleyan Church.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pauline M. Leitzel; children, Judith A. (Bob) Ferryman, Fortville, James L. (Diane) Leitzel, Pine Grove, Penn., Rebecca L. Tomblin, Pendleton, John B. (Debbie) Leitzel, Cicero, David A. (Carol) Leitzel, Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Forrest (Thelma) Leitzel, Millersburg, Penn.

Leonard was preceded in death by brother, Ralph Leitzel; and sister, Daisy Kreischer.

A Memorial Celebration Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in College Wesleyan Church, Marion. Interment will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.

Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. His family welcomes visitors.
