Alfred "Al" Fulton Garrett, 57, of Amarillo, met his Saviour face-to-face on January 28, 2013. He was born in Amarillo, TX to Alfred E. Garrett and Willie Mae Turner Garrett on November 8, 1955. Visitation will be at Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, on February 1, 2013, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Services will be at Amarillo South Georgia Nazarene Church, 5016 Susan Drive, Amarillo, on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 3:00 pm, with Pastors Lowell Schmidt, SGNC, Ron Sullivan, Amarillo First Church of the Nazarene, and Norman Reed, Lighthouse Assembly of God, Pine Bluffs, WY, officiating. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery, Amarillo.

Mr. Garrett graduated from John Jay High School, San Antonio, TX, in 1974. He attended Eastern New Mexico University, San Antonio College, Amarillo College, and graduated in 1993 from Nazarene Bible College, Colorado Springs, CO, with a degree in Pastoral Ministries and a minor in Music. He was employed by Amarillo Independent School District. Mr. Garrett had been an Amarillo resident for 19 years.

Al married his high school sweetheart, the former Gina "Jeanie" Danner, in 1976. Theirs was a marriage of great love and passion. To their union were born three children, Steffan Fulton, Christina Renee, and Kimberly Joyce. His wife, children, including his sons, Craig and Dusty, given him by his daughters, and his grandchildren were the joys of his life. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Al was a dedicated Christian and served God and His church in many ways. He ministered in word and song not only in the Church of the Nazarene, but in other protestant denominations throughout Texas and the Midwest. He also served as a board member, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Director, Sunday School Teacher, singer, pulpit supply, and Wednesday night Bible study leader at South Georgia Nazarene Church in Amarillo. He ministered daily in his personal life and by his actions of acceptance, friendship, and unconditional love for his family and friends. It was his greatest desire to see his family and friends saved. His influence was felt by many across Amarillo and he will be sorely missed!

He was a devoted son to his parents, spending as much time with them as possible and helping out as needed. His father's heroic service in WWII made him a WWII buff and he and his dad spent many hours in conversation about the experiences that so shaped, not only his father's life, but that of his family as well.

His love of the military and his country also influenced "Big Papa's" grandsons, Hayden and Ashton, instilling in them a respect and love for their country and those who protect it. He was so proud of the fine young men his grandsons are becoming! His biggest regret was that his granddaughter, Kylie, is so young that she is not likely to remember "Big Papa" for long. His little princess delighted him!

Al loved living! He was always active, always doing something. He loved playing in general and with his grandchildren in particular. He collected scale model tanks and air planes, guns and BB guns, enjoyed gardening, working with his hands, learning about anything, and spending time with his family.

Garrett is survived by his wife Gina; his children, Chrys and Craig Putnam, and Kim and Dustin Brown; his grandchildren, Hayden Putnam, and Ashton and Kylie Brown; his mother, Willie Mae Garrett; his sisters Paula Pershall, and Sandra and George Robinson, all of Amarillo, his sister, Lea and Johnny Fithen, of Claude; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Steffan, his father, Alfred, and his brother, Olen.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 The battle is over, the war has been won, the angels are rejoicing over another victor come home, and Al is kneeling at the feet of Jesus! Praise God!

The family requests that memorials be sent to Gideon's International, The Salvation Army, or the Amarillo South Georgia Nazarene Church Youth Ministry.
