MANCHESTER -- Rita E. (Roukey) Carter, 86, formerly of Pine Hill Avenue, died Feb. 18, 2007, at Hackett Hill Nursing Home.
She was born in Manchester on Sept. 18, 1921, to Edward and Adeline (Bernard) Roukey and had been a lifelong resident of the area.
Mrs. Carter had worked for First National Stores for many years, retiring in 1962. She was a volunteer caregiver for many years. She was active in St. Edmond Church and later at the Parish of the Transfiguration.
Mrs. Carter enjoyed playing bingo and cribbage.
She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Carter, and by her son, Oscar James Carter.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
Family includes daughter Mrs. Gerard (Fayth) Beland of Manchester; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at the Parish of the Transfiguration. Encryptment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
