Bernard L. Ford, 82, of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug 21, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Kelly of Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Ford was born August 10, 1918, in Yankton, S.D., the son of Thomas and Sarah (Edwards) Ford. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Mardel Galbreath in 1970, in Sioux City. She died in January 1994, in Onawa, Iowa.

He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor after 32 years. He was honored by President Richard Nixon as the railroad conductor in the 1952 election that traveled throughout Iowa.

Survivors include two sons, his wife, three daughters, a sister and her husband, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew who were his caregivers.

He is preceded in death by eight brothers.
