Samuel was the second son and sixth child of Eli and Harriet Iden. He married Hannah Hetrick on May 17, 1866 in Hardin County, OH. They were the parents of George A. (June 26, 1867-November 21, 1884), bn. in Ohio and died in Perry Township, Richland County, OH at the age of 17, and Hattie Anne bn. 1869 in Ohio. He volunteered to serve in the Civil War; his service was with the Union Army, Ohio Infantry, 136th Regiment, Company I. He was divorced from Hannah in October 1876. He married Rosannah Clemmings Sept. 18, 1878 in Licking County, OH. She died in Licking County. He died, probably in 1889, as that is when Rosannah filed for pension. There is no record of when he died or where he is buried.
