First Lieutenant Stinson was the pilot of U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-40-MO Superfortress #44-86276, serving with the 231st Combat Crew Training Squadron.

He was one of nine airmen killed in a mid-air collision at 15,000 feet in the skies over Weatherford, Texas with another B-29 (#42-93895 piloted by 1st Lt Robert A Mayer).

There were no survivors of the crash of the Alamogordo, New Mexico-based bomber.

Seven were killed aboard the other B-29 (two survived).
Lt. Stinson was from Caneyville, Kentucky.
