Charlotte of Pahrump, NV, formerly of Portland, passed away at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center. The youngest daughter of Frederick and Mary (Case) Schaer. She worked for the George Lawrence Company, and later, International Harvester, Motor Truck Division for 35 years, both in the Portland area. She married Guerald Clarke Day on Oct. 11, 1941. Charlotte's community and philanthropic activities were well recognized. In 1953 she was honored at Portland's "Citizen of the Week" for her volunteer services to the Oregon Society of Crippled Children and Adults. She was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation from 1957 to 1965. Her involvement in the General Federation and Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs included memberships in the Portland Junior Women's Club; a Charter Member of the Portland Zenith Club; the Portland Sorosis Club and the prestigious President's Club of Portland. She was chairman and secretary of the Oregon Federation of Women's Club Scholarship Loan and Fellowship Fund for Pan-American students. She was appointed to the Board as a Charter Member of the Oregon Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders by then Governor Tom McCall. From 1961 to 1971 Charlotte owned and operated a franchised KarmelKorn Shop at Eastport Plaza. Charlotte was a Girl Scout leader and Irvington Neighborhood Chairman. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and sister, Leone Albright. She is survived by her daughter, Drexel Firby and her husband John of Pahrump, NV; grandchildren, Laura (James) Van Sickle of Geneseo, NY; Charlynn (Tim) Hinson of New Plymouth, ID and Jerad (Marcie) Firby of San Francisco, CA and great grandchildren Emily and Elizabeth Van Sickle and Alisha and Cody Hinson. On a post-it-note found in her handwriting was the following message: "I would like to feel that each life I have touched is better for my having touched it." Her family and friends know this to be true.
