At the time of his death, Lt. Col Scott was chief of staff of the 402 Bombardment Wing (later the 13th Bombardment wing) under Gen Nathan B Forrest. He had been acting commanding general of the wing following Gen Forrest's death.
He was killed in serial action over Lommel, Belgium August 12, 1943
