Physicist. Educated at the University of Rome under Enrico Fermi prior to taking a position as a research associate in the Radiation Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1943 to 1946 he was a group leader in the Los Alamos Laboratory of the Manhattan Project. In 1955 he and Owen Chamberlain discovered the antiproton which supported Dirac's theory of antimatter. For this work Segre and Chamberlain shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1959.
