Inez Pennington Walker was born on April 17, 1925 to Ike and Mary (Stuart) Pennington, in Ozan, Arkansas. She was the ninth and last child for her parents. She grew up in the Ozan, Tolet, Texarkana and Hot Springs area before marrying and moving to Kansas City, Kansas. She completed school in Tolet, Arkansas. She resided in Denver, Colorado at the time of her passing. Her husband, parents, eight sisters and brothers and three great-grandchildren preceded her in death.
Sister Walker married Frank C Walker in 1942 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and moved to Kansas City, KS. in 1944. They were married for 56 years before he passed. She was the mother of three daughters, Rose Mary, Joyce Marie and Marilyn Ruth.
I E, as we called her, always enjoyed cooking and used her skills at her church of membership, the 8th Street Baptist Church. Before her illness, she served on the cooking/kitchen staff and was a member of the Adult Choir. She was very proud to be in the over 60-year member of 8th Street and a member of the Eastern Star and KCK Sisterhood of America Club. As her children were growing up she was very active in the community. She served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader with one of the largest African American troops in Kansas City, KS. They won many awards under leadership that she partner with Mrs. Alsbrook.
She peacefully made her transition into the arms of our Lord on January 19, 2013 in Denver, Colorado.
Survivors are: her daughters, Rose Mary Walker Bunton, Joyce Marie Walker and Marilyn (Terry) Ruth Walker Smith; grandchildren, Kevin C. Walker, Samuel (Margaret) Bunton, Terika (Frederick) Thomas Jr., Tamika (Chandis) Pendleton and Terri (Joseph) Smith-England; nine great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Cora Walker Tolfree; brother-in-law, Johnny Walker and a host of relatives and friends.
