BRUNSON, S.C. -- Mrs. Nelle Alexander Arant died March 5.

She was born in Branchville. She attended the University of South Carolina. She graduated from Columbia College, Class of 1933, where she was one of the two first graduates of the first summer school at Columbia College. She had taught in Brunson Public School and Wade Hampton High School for 20 years. She was a member of Brunson United Methodist Church, where she was a circle leader, sang in the choir and served on all committees. She was a charter member and past president of the Rose and Evergreen Garden Clubs, member of the Book and Music Club, Homemakers Club, Columbia College Alumnae Club and the Civic Club.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Edward C. Arant of Brunson; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and L. Arlen Cotter of Columbia, and Libby and Randolph Murdaugh III of Varnville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. M. Donald Alexander, Jr. of Columbia; sister, Reka Moore of Spartanburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. today at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, Hampton Chapel.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Sunday at Brunson United Methodist Church in Brunson, burial in Brunson Cemetery.
