Peter was born to John and Jane (Strickler) Rist in 1810 in Somerset co, Pa. He attended the public school after the fashion of the farmer boy of that period, a few weeks in winter and grew to manhood on the home farm. When quite a young man he came to Fayette county, finally settling in Bullskin township, where he became a prosperous farmer and large land owner. He owned three adjoining farms aggregating five hundred and sixty acres. He died at the age of fifty-one years, respected for his industry and thrift. He married Sarah Johnson, born at Revere, German township, Fayette Co, Pa. They had 11 children. Several children died in infancy.
