Dr. Samuel Lucas Raines, 94, a former chief of staff at Methodist Hospital and former professor of urology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, died Friday, December 17, at Allen Morgan Health Care Center.

Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the University of Tennessee, Memphis.

He formerly was president of the Memphis and Shelby County Medical Society, secretary and president of the American Urological Association and was a recipient of the Raymond Guiteras Award for outstanding services to urology.
A Rotarian since 1937, he received the Paul Harris Fellow medal.

Dr. Raines won the Distinguished American Award given by the Memphis Chapter of the National Football Foundation and was believed to be the last surviving member of the UT Doctors football team.

He was a lieutenant colonel in the Army from 1942 to 1946, serving under General George S. Patton.

The husband of Josephine Raines, he also leaves a daughter, Lucy Wiklinson; a son, Richard Raines, and a stepdaughter, Ann Mueller, all of Memphis; two stepsons, Albert W. Biggs of Knoxville and William Mueller of Memphis; a sister Lydia Moore of Memphis, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
