Born in Wilkes-Barre he was the son of Edith Powell and step-father Thomas Gansel. He was educated in the Wilkes-Barre city schools and resided in the city all his life. Mr. Powell was employed in the area coal mines for many years and served as a Wilkes-Barre fireman for over 40years at No. 1 and No. 7 stations. He was a member of the Federation of Firemen.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Elizabeth Wildrick and young daughter Gertrude Powell.
Surviving are his current wife, the former Margaret Hoffman; children Harry T. Powell, Wapwallopen, Sharon, Ashley, Maureen, East End and step-son Donald Hoffman, Wilkes-Barre.
