Allen was married first to Ada Wheeler, 1858, they had a baby who only lived for a year in Iowa, then they divorced in VT. He made his way to Missouri, then to Texas, where he married Tamar Levinson 1878. They lived near Washington Co. for awhile, then moved to Nipomo, CA after 1886. Allen worked as a builder, carpenter, and California land salesman, according to a pamphlet found in his wallet. He left his wife and son and new baby in Nipomo to find work in San Francisco. They moved to Walnut Creek, where he died, November 1891, stranding his family away from their base in Texas. I believe the family lived in Oakland for some time. His obituary said he would be buried at Lafayette, but we can't find him there.
