OBITUARY September 25, 1914
One by one the old pioneers are passing away.
Mrs. E.A. Clarke died on Saturday, September 19th, at 2nd Avenue, N.W., after a lingering illness. Her funeral was September 22nd, from Spurr and Dunlap's Internment in Woodbine Cemetery.
In the death of Mrs. Eunice A Clarke, another pioneer has gone. Mrs. Clarke was born in Ohio, on the 24th of January, 1840, and moved to Wisconsin with her parents, where she lived until 1852, when she crossed the plains with her mother and brother, her father having come to Oregon in 1849. In 1853 with her father and mother, she came to Boistfort, Lewis County, Washington, and on December 2nd, 1854, she was married to Fred A Clarke, of Cowlitz Landing, where they lived for several years. In 1864, Mrs. Clarke and family moved to Muck, Pierce County, where Mr. Clarke took charge of Charles Wren's farm, and later on they moved to Steilacoom, where they lived intil 1871, when they moved to Puyallup, where she has resided ever since. Fred A Clarke, her husband, came from Florida to California in 1849, and in 1851 he came to the Cowlitz Landing,. He served a term in the Washington Territorial Legislature, and in the first Legislature he was appointed attorney general of the territory. In October 1878, Mr. Clarke died in Puyallup. Mrs. Clarke was the mother of ten children, nine of who are living. Her eldest son, Sils F, having passed away a few years ago. Those living are: Mrs. Mary L Cook, of Puyallup, Mrs. Lottie E Durgin, of Enumclaw, Mrs. Lizzie A Pearsall, of Enumclaw, Mrs. Florida R Gillsepie, of Puyallup, Mrs. Eunice A Wilson, of Enumclaw, and C.K. Clarke. of Imperial Valley, California. H. Clarke of Gridley, California, W.F. Clarke of Tacoma, and Fed A Clarke of Puyallup. Besides her own family, she has 22 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, and one brother, Jay Stillman of Puyallup. Mrs. Clarke was a member of the Pierce County Pioneer Society. source old newspaper clipping with no info about which newspaper printed it.
