Joshua Andrew Smart, 18, of 6575 A.L. Philpott Highway, Martinsville, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Martinsville on Feb. 17, 1993, to Terry Warren Smart and Ginger Denise Matherly Smart of the home.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Smart, Lewhy Matherly and V. Frances Wolfe, and his step-grandfather, Luther Wolfe.
He graduated from Carlisle School, completed an internship with the Martinsville Bulletin and was to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond this fall.
He was a member of New Beginnings Worship Center in Martinsville.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Jonathan Warren Smart of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; his grandmother, Hazel Smart of Axton; two nieces; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Church, 350 A.L. Philpott Highway, Axton, with Pastor Brad Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville and other times at the home.
