Esther moved to New York at a young age and began working for the family of George Cassel, there in October of 1919. While running an errand for her employer she met Adam Basmajian and fell in love. They soon married and had a son and daughter, Gazaar and Georgianna. Their baby daughter later died from a childhood illness of some sort. Her husband Adam died in 1926, and her son Gazar was also killed in a terrible car accident in 1939.
Adam's brother comforted Esther and looked after her and her son (his nephew) during her grieving time. Their friendship soon blossomed into a love that lasted her entire life. They had two daughters together, my grandmother, Clara Basmajian and also Georgiana (who died as a young child).
Esther lived to be 89 years old and had a man who loved her and treated her like princess. He took good care of her and gave her a wonderful life. When Astor died from pneumonia in April of 1984, Esther was so overcome with grief from his death that she passed soon after. They loved each other so much, neither one could live without the other.
