Rudolph ""Rudy"" Valentino, age 83, of Mentor for the past 35 years, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.

He was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Altoona, Pa.

Mr. Valentino was a certified engineer at IBM for 38 years, from 1954 until his retirement in 1992.

Rudy was an active member at Mentor Plains United Methodist Church for many years. He was a Collinwood High School graduate, Class of 1947. He was a member of Lake County YMCA, Willoughby Branch and enjoyed music, movies and his dogs, Tina and Jitterbug.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1948 until 1954.

Survivors include his son, Tom N. (April) Valentino of Concord Township; grandchildren, Tom N. (Michelle) Valentino Jr. of Painesville and Kristen Valentino of Concord Township; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Valentino; aunt, ""Booty"" Calandra of Mentor; stepchildren, Barbara (Chuck) Cutrone of Fairport Harbor, Mark Perl of Mentor and James (Barb) Perl of Eastlake; stepgrandchilden, Damien, Matthew, Julie, Sarah, Christopher, Anthony, Candice and Jessica; and step-great-granddaughter, Gabriela.

Preceding Rudy in death are his first wife, Joan Valentino; second wife, Arlene Valentino; father, Phillip Valentino; and mother, Mildred (Victor) Fulvi.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mentor Plains United Methodist Church, 7271 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
