Clark Decker enlisted as Private in Company E of the Fourth Michigan Infantry on June 20, 1861, for three years of service, at age 23. He was listed as having been wounded in action on June 27, 1862. He reenlisted on December29, 1863, and was on detached service with Company K of the First Michigan Infantry, by order on July 2, 1864. Clark was transferred to Company K of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan infantry on June 6, 1865. On October 1, 1865, Clark was promoted to Corporal and later mustered out of the service on February 23, 1866, at San Antonio, Texas.
