Post Star, Glens Falls, January 20, 2005:
Theodore John Ackary, 83, of Main Street, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness.

Born March 23, 1921, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late John and Zerrif (Abbott) Ackary.

Ted was very proud of his Syrian lineage. His father was a school teacher in Syria and came to the United States on Dec. 6, 1901, on the Deutschland Ships that sailed from Cherboum on November 29, 1901. He started working with his father at an early age, assisting his father on a fruit and vegetable wagon.

Following his graduation from Glens Falls High School in 1940, Teddy went to work at the Imperial Wallpaper Co. He then worked for Sam Hildreth selling bus tickets. He went on to work for Adirondack Trailways in the late 1940s until 1969. He than became commission agent until 1977, at which time he and his wife, Alice, purchased the building as a lunch counter. In 1978, Greyhound Bus Co. came to him and for the next 22 years he sold their tickets. Until his passing, he loved the bus business.

Ted married Alice Elizabeth Hall on June 26, 1954, at the Church of the Holy Cross in Warrensburg. On June 26, 2004, all customers at the All Points Diner were treated to a piece of Anniversary cake furnished by Sarah Combs, Norma McCormick and Betty Wilson, with their breakfast.

Besides his parents, his sisters, Susan, Susie, Sarah and Dorothy; and his brother, Samuel, have all predeceased him.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Alice E. Ackary of Warrensburg; two sisters, Ida Harrington of Glens Falls and Mary Waldron and her husband, Richard, of Utica; four nieces; two nephews; three grand nieces; three grand nephews; and a cousin, Sophie Hansa of Glens Falls.

During his days in the hospital and Eden Park Rehabilitation Center in 2004, he was deeply touched and pleased of all the people who thought to go out of their way to visit him. He will be greatly missed by all of his past and present customers who were a very important part of his day.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 pm today, Jan. 21, at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home, with Sister Linda Hogan of St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Spring burial will take place at Warrensburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Warrensburg Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 157, Warrensburg, NY 12885 or St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 3802 Main St., Warrensburg, NY 12885.
