Florence M. Bixby, age 90, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Streeter Funeral Home, 507 W. Maple, Byron, with the Rev. Jack Johnston officiating. Burial in the Union Plains Cemetery, Byron. Visitation at the funeral home Monday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Florence was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 26, 1918 the daughter of Thomas E. and Emma Marie (Lenert) Lewis. She married Richard E. Bixby in Owosso, MI on August 15, 1941, he preceded her in death on April 7, 2000. She lived in the Byron area since 1941. Florence was a graduate of Corunna High School, class of 1936. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from CMU and her Master of Arts Degree from MSU. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Byron and the Red Hat Society. Florence was an elementary school teacher, principal and high school counselor for the Byron Area Schools, retiring in 1982. She also was preceded in death by her son Douglas.
