Actress and Model. Born in Chicago, Illinois, as Mary Helen Anders. When she was a teenager, she would earn money baby-sitting the son of Chicago Musicians Union leader James Caesar Petrillo. The family relocated to Los Angeles in 1949 and, while attending John Burroughs Junior High School, Merry made the acquaintance of Rita La Roy, who convinced her to take a modeling course. She quickly becomes a top junior model, replacing the current top model, Tippi Hedren. In 1951 she appears in full page national ads for Catalina sweaters and Singer sewing machines, as well as being a top a billboard model for Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn in Las Vegas. Merry took dramatic lessons and was "spotted" by a 20th Century-Fox talent scout in a Playhouse stage presentation. Merry would play bit parts for some of 20th Century-Fox's biggest films of the era such as Titanic and How To Marry A Millionaire, in which she plays a girl named "Tipsy". In the 1950s and 1960s, Merry made numerous television appearances, including the premiere episode "Brannigan's Boots" of the ABC/Warner Brothers western series Sugarfoot, with Will Hutchins in the title role. She is cast as the character Katie Brannigan, who inadvertently coins the character's name, "Sugarfoot", and it was not meant as a compliment. Other appearances included The Real McCoys, Lassie, 77 Sunset Strip, and on Perry Mason, including the role of Sadie Hepner in the 1962 episode, "The Case of the Glamorous Ghost." She also appeared in seven episodes of the 1967 version Dragnet. She was married two times, first to John Stephens, they would have a daughter together, she married Richard Benedict in 1986. Merry left show business in 1972. Her last screen role was as Shirley in Gunsmoke. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.
