Obituary published in THE STATE Newspaper:
Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth Cumalander, 72, died last Thursday at her home near Irmo after a short illness of pneumonia.
A very devoted and faithful member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Cumalander had resided all her life in this section, making for herself a wide circle of friends who will regret to hear of her passing.
She is survived by five children, Miss Mattie Elizabeth Cumalander, Mrs. Ophelia Yenny of Irmo, Mrs. Viola McCartha of Chapin, Mrs. Susie Bickley, of Chapin and Mrs. Annie Adkinson (sic-Adkins) of Irmo; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Three Sisters, Mrs. Susie Lindler, of Chapin, Mrs. Isabelle Hedgepath and Mrs. Mary Adkins, both of New Brookland; four brothers, George Sites, Henry Sites and Robert Sites, of Irmo, and John Sites, of Little Mountain, also survive.
Christian Funeral Services were held Friday afternoon, March 6, 1936, at St. Jacob's Wateree Church, near Chapin, conducted by the Rev. T. H. Weeks. Interment was in the church cemetery.
