A Lakewood resident since 1978, he was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Prattsville, N.Y., the son of the late Edmund Wescott and Alta Peckham Deyo.
He was a 1944 graduate of Gilboa Central School in Greene County, N.Y. and 1951 from Hartwick College, in Oneonta. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from Feb. 14, 1945 until his discharge Oct. 20, 1946, in the Philippines and Japan. He was a Sears store manager in Lakewood for 11 years and a Sears employee for 40 years, retiring in May of 1989.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and formerly a council member, the Chautauqua LakeYacht Club, The Cabin, Virgil E. Deyo Memorial Post 1327 American Legion in Prattsville for 59 years, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Town Club, and Broome County Chamber of Commerce.

He served on the First City Bank of Binghamton board of directors, Roberson Center of the Arts and Science, Binghamton, the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County, Fenton History Center, and the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, which we chaired 1982 through 1984.

He was a history enthusiast, enjoyed skiing, boating, golfing, traveling, reading, attending Lucille Ball Little Theatre productions and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores S. ''Dorie'' Swartz Deyo, whom he married March 23, 1963 in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, York, Pa.; two daughters, Elizabeth D. Dahlin of Frewsburg and Sara D. Kimmel of Rochester; a son, Stephen E. Deyo of Jamestown, nine grandchildren: Kathryn, Sabrina, Courtney, Hannah, and Terry Dahlin III, all of Frewsburg, Lindsay Dahlin of Falconer, and Margaret, Robert and Julia Kimmel, all of Rochester; and a sister, Mary Frances Deyo Colson of Schenectady.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Edmund Deyo, a casualty of combat during World War II in St. Lo, France, on July 23, 1944.
