Katherine "Katy" Rosa Glaze Resident of Fitchburg, WI Katherine "Katy" Rosa Glaze, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013, in the special care of Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Born Katherine Rosa Rosalewski, June 28, 1920 in Manila, Luzon Island, in the Philippines, the daughter of Albert and Catalina Rosalewski, Katy was preceded in passing by her parents, sisters, Elly and Esther, a brother, Albert, and her beloved husband of 67 years, Elmer "Sonny" Glaze. Katherine was educated at St. Scholastica's College in Manila. She grew up with an avid love for reading and drawing, often designing her own dresses as a teenager and reading the dictionary when she ran out of books. After meeting Elmer Glaze, who was in the service of the U.S. Navy, she married the love of her life in 1939 before crossing the ocean at age 19, never to return to her native country. The couple eventually settled in California in the 1950s, where they lived for 45 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Katy had a passion for all things California: Pismo Beach, sea food, and great weather. She enjoyed life as a homemaker, known especially for her fruitcake and crab cioppino recipes. Her last meal before lapsing into eternal sleep was, in fact, crab cioppino prepared by her daughter-in-law from Katy's old recipe. For health reasons, Katherine moved to Fitchburg in 2000 to live closer to family. But she left her heart in San Francisco. She is survived by loving children and grandchildren, including her son John Glaze and wife, Jane, of Madison; her daughter Patricia Gaesser and husband, Glenn, of Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren: Michael Glaze and his wife, Rachel, of Irvine, Calif., Kate Glaze of Park City, Utah, Jeffrey Glaze of Madison, Lindsay Gaesser of Eugene, Ore., and Brandon Gaesser of Mesa, Arizona; and one great-grandchild, Charlie Glaze, of Irvine, Calif. Other survivors include a sister, Luise, in Palm Desert, Calif., several nephews, and a loving niece, Carol Richardson, of La Verne, Calif. CRESS FUNERAL HOME is handling the final arrangements. Katherine will be laid to eternal rest beside her late husband at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, in the spring. The family wishes to thank the staff of Agrace HospiceCare for their support and requests that donations in Katherine Glaze's name be made to Agrace HospiceCare of Madison.
