Mrs. Eliza A. Umphenour an old resident
of Vermillion-Vliets neighborhood and the
wife of B.F. Umphenour passed away at
9:00 p.m. on Monday night November 27,
1922 at St. Joseph's hospital in St. Joseph,
Missouri, where she had underwent an
operation for removal of gall stones about
three weeks ago.
Mrs. Umphenour was about seventy years
old, and besides her husband is survived
by four sons and four daughters, all of
which was bedside when the end came.
Mrs. Umphenour remains arrived in
Vliets on the early train on Wednesday
morning.
Funeral services were held and burial was
in the Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion,
Kansas.

Obituary
Eliza Ann Dresbach, was born October 4, 1852, in Ohio. In her young girlhood, with her parents she moved to Pontiac, Illinois, where on September 14, [1874] she was married to B. P. Umphenour. To this union twelve children were born, one dying in infancy, another at eighteen months, and later two married daughters, Nannie Stotts died in 1902, leaving one son, Charles, of Winifred, and Mrs. Minnie Stotts in 1910, leaving two daughters, Myrtle and Alta of Vliets.
The following children are left with the husband to mourn her loss: Four daughters, Emma Schrair of Vermillion, Ethel Huggens of Adrian, Missouri, Mary Umphenour of Vliets, and Hazle Grauer of Marysville, Kansas. Four sons, Benjamin, of Peoria, Illinois; George, of Kansas City, Kansas; James, of Peoria, Illinois; and Jacob, of Wheaton, Kansas. Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
When quite a young girl she united with the Methodist church at Springfield, Illinois, from which her membership was never moved. Last summer she expressed a great desire to unite with the Methodist church for that great purpose, but her serious illness prevented.
She was taken to the St. Joseph. Missouri hospital, November 9th, and underwent an operation the 13th after which she made a great fight for life, which seemed in her favor until the eleventh day of her illness, when a change came. Realizing she could not yet well she asked for a minister to came and baptize her and praying she might be spared until her sons came, when her request was granted such a peaceful happy look came over her face and she said "Good Bye, I'm going home."
