Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 15, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private in Company C on September 4, 1862. He was promoted to Corporal on October 22, 1863, and was reduced back to Private on April 30, 1864. On May 12, 1864 he was killed in action during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia.
He married Martha A. Brooks on December 26, 1860. She died on March 27, 1862. They had one child, Thomas Deacon, born on March 22, 1862. He died on October 4, 1933.
