DECATUR — Vivian Naola Barnes, 94, of Decatur, IL passed away at 12:58 P.M. on Thursday, November 17, 2005 in Imboden Creek Living Center, Decatur.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation one hour before service. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur or Kemmerer Village, rural Assumption, IL.
Mrs. Barnes was born on August 6, 1911 in Palmyra, IL, the daughter of Rev. Clinton L. and Winifred (Sykes) Bell. She was a retired high school English teacher, having taught at Maroa High School, Lakeview High School and was Dean of Girls at Thomas Jefferson. She also worked as a Counselor for three years at Child & Family Services. She graduated from Millikin University with a Master's Degree, was a recipient of the Millikin Loyalty Award in 1957 and was a member of Delta Epsilon Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the CX Chapter of P.E.O. and Stephen Decatur Chapter of D.A.R. She married Ira B. Barnes on June 25, 1936 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1987.
Surviving are four grandchildren: Laura Barnes of Charlotte, NC, Daniel A. Barnes and wife JoAnna of Durham, NC, Dr. Amanda Squires and husband David of Augusta, GA and Joshua Barnes of Marietta, GA; four great grandchildren: Pam Androff, Adam Androff, Hannah Barnes and Jack Squires; very special friend, Velma Madison of Decatur and very dear friend and co-worker, David Kidd and wife Louise of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Dr. David L. Barnes, M.D., one sister, Glea Simshauser and one brother, Dale V. Bell.
