Once again an old settler, a many year resident of Mayville has passed on. Mrs. Diedrich Meiners, nee Katharina Bakenhus, died yesterday Monday March 9th, at 10:20 p.m., in her home in Mayville, from a stomach ailment following a six week illness. The deceased was born in Bakenhus, Kirchspiel, Grossen Kneten, the arch duchy of Oldenburg, September 11, 1837, emigrated to America in 1866, living first in Cincinnati, Ohio. She came to Mayville in 1867 where she married her surviving husband, November, 1871. Aside from him, four children mourn her death; one son Emil and three daughters, Ida, Luise and Anna Meiners. One brother of the deceased, Herman Bakenhus, lives in Nebraska. One sister died in youth and another sister died many years ago shortly after they arrived in Mayville, as the result of a cold which developed and intensified during the sea journey to America. The burial will be on the Graceland Cemetery, March 19th at 2 p.m., from the house of mourning. Mrs. Meiners was a widely admired and beloved woman of the city of Mayville and her death is equally regrettable to our population. We express our warm sympathy to the bereaved.
