Austin Wentworth "Went" Lambert
1914-2012


Austin "Went" Wentworth Lambert, 97 passed away November 10, 2012 at his home in Bellevue, Washington. He was born in Ogden, Utah on December 20, 1914 to Austin Abram Lambert, an immigrant from England and Karoline Fern Fuld born in Hailey, Idaho to German immigrants.

Went grew up and attended school in Hailey, Idaho, 11 miles south of what is now Sun Valley. Went was the eldest of three boys. Went attended Colorado State as a freshman and then transferred to the University of Washington.

Went eventually moved to Portland, Oregon and was hired by Meier and Frank to manage their ski shop. He met his future wife Gertrude Kenneth there and they married in 1940. Went was hired by White Stag Canvas division as a salesman and they moved to Eugene, Oregon to raise their family.

After Pearl Harbor, Went volunteered for the ski troops that eventually became the Tenth Mountain Division. In February of 1945 during a battle for Mt. Belvedere in Italy, Went was severely wounded. His dedicated service earned him two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was discharged in October of 1945 while still recovering from his injuries.

Went was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Fern Lambert, his wife Gertrude Lambert and his two brothers Ron and Joe Lambert.

Went is survived by his four sons and their families. Ron and Jolynn Lambert of Sisters, Oregon, Jim and Laura Lambert of Eugene, Oregon, Rick and Teresa Lambert of San Antonio, Texas, Leonard and Meagan Lambert, of Snohomish, Washington. He was blessed with four grandchildren and their families. Shawn and Stephanie Lambert of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ryan Lambert and Jessica Land of Eugene, Oregon, Kimberly and Randy Kenyon of Portland, Oregon, and Eva Lambert of Snohomish, Washington. He had one great-grandson Oliver Kenyon of Portland, Oregon.

A memorial service with full Military Honors will be February 1, 2013 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington at 10:00 a.m.

Later in the day a reception will be hosted by his family at Silver Glenn, 1750 152nd Ave NE, in Bellevue, WA, in the community center at 4:30 p.m.
