Biography by Dawn Kelly
John Felder was the son of Peter Felder, Sr. (1759-1848; born in Orangeburg, SC, and died in Pike County, MS) & Elizabeth Lowe (1759-1840 in Pike County, MS). John established the original Felder Camp Ground and Methodist Church. Except for a break during the Civil War and Reconstruction, Felder family summer camp meetings have been held continuously for over 150 years and at the current location since 1881.

Peter Felder, Sr. (1759-1848) was the son of Henry Felder (1725-1780) of Zurich, Switzerland, and his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Schaumloffel (1723-1761) of Germany. Both Henry and Mary immigrated to the US with their parents, arriving in Orangeburg District, SC, where they married on Dec. 15, 1747. Henry Felder is the Revolutionary War patriot through which membership in the DAR can be obtained. In fact, he was killed by Tories (British loyalists) in 1780 as the war neared its end. Of the numerous children of Henry & Mary Felder, only Peter Felder left South Carolina for Mississipi, settling in Pike County about 1811.

Henry Felder (1725-1780), the Revolutionary War patriot, was the only surviving child of Hans Heinrich Felder (1672-1738) and Ursula Zuber (1692-1739), who married on April 24, 1721. This couple are the original immigrants from Zurich, Switzerland. They arrived in South Carolina in 1735 with 10-year-old Henry. Hans Heinrich Felder is the patriarch of the Felder family in South Carolina, Mississippi and Texas.

Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors.
