George M. "Bud" Butler, 75, of 516 Stone Avenue, Templeton, died Tuesday, August 24, 1993 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1918, in Mosgrove to Frank H. and Edna I. (Lockhart) Butler He was a World War II veteran and he was a Protestant. He was a kiln fireman and retired from Harbinson-Walker Refractories Company after 30 years service. At the time of his death, he was a Pine Township Supervisor. He was past president of USW Local No. 14487, former Pine Twp. police chief, Democratic committeeman in Pine Township, and a member of the Pine Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was the first paid police officer for Pine Twp. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Templeton Rod and Gun Club and was also a well known baseball player from Templeton in the 40's and 50's. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne A. (Barrett) Butler whom he married Jan. 10, 1939; a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Donna) Sheaffer of Lancaster; five sons, George M. (Esther) Butler, of New Providence, PA, Sgt. Major Robert L. (Kristi)Butler of Prince George, VA, James L. (Judy) Butler, Templeton, F. Dennis (Cindy) Butler, East Petersburg, PA and David L. (Martha) Butler, Kittanning; 15 grandchildren, Michelle (Ronald) Souders, Lancaster, PA, Gordon Sheaffer, Lancaster, Craig Butler, Colorado, Karl, Kevin, Carley and Justin Butler, Quarryville, PA, Rebecca (Dwayne) Weitzel, Kittanning, James Butler, Jr., Templeton, Andrea Butler, East Petersburg, PA, Jodie and Heather Simpson, Kittanning, and Kayla Butler, Kittanning; and two great grandchildren Brady Lee Souders and Taylor Jessica Weitzel. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, five brother, and a daughter, Shirley Jean. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Wednesday at Kennedy & Blodgett Funeral Home, Kittanning, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Russell E. Hawk, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Widnoon officiating. Burial will take place in Cochran Cemetery.
